During the recent State of the State luncheon hosted by the Broken Arrow Chamber, a well-known leader in Broken Arrow received a special honor.
Russell Peterson was honored as the recipient of the Legacy Award by the Broken Arrow Chamber — which has only been given 5 times in the organization’s history.
Recipients of the award reflect the highest levels of dedication and commitment to leaving a lasting impact on Broken Arrow and its citizens.
The individual, couples or families who receive this award have given exemplary service and commitment to the community.
Broken Arrow Chamber President and CEO Jennifer Conway said Peterson is a “pillar of the Broken Arrow community” and has played a vital role in the growth and strengthening of the city with his 40 years of service.
Peterson has have served as chairman of the Broken Arrow Chamber Board of Directors twice, played a fundamental role in the growth of Rotary Club of Broken Arrow, and been a key benefactor for the Broken Arrow Schools Foundation, Conway said.
“The legacy of this year’s recipient will continue to be felt in our community for decades,” Conway said, noting Peterson formed the Build a Better Broken Arrow committee in 1991 and, for the last 33 years, has helped shape and promote bond issues presented by the city of Broken Arrow and Broken Arrow Public Schools.
“His service to these causes has allowed us to have a community that is appealing to businesses and residents alike,” Conway said.
“And what’s even more impressive – he’d tell you he did all of this without sending a single email or text message.”
