A student at Spring Creek Elementary School was hit by a vehicle while in a crosswalk Monday morning and taken for medical treatment, the school said.
The Broken Arrow fire and police departments responded to the incident and found the child did not suffer life-threatening injuries but would require medical treatment.
The police incident occurred during drop-off on 3rd Street between Spring Creek and Ernest Childers Middle School. The driver was cited by police for failure to yield the right of way.
In a letter to parents, Spring Creek Principal Brandon Carr asked both drivers and students to exercise caution around the school.
“Given the time of day it occurred, you and or your student may have witnessed the accident. Please use this as an opportunity to talk with your students about the importance of using caution when around moving vehicles and things they can do to keep themselves safe. As drivers, let’s remain alert and cautious when traveling through school zones,” Carr said.
