Debbie Taylor won the Zone 2 seat on the Broken Arrow Board of Education Tuesday, taking enough of the vote in the primary contest to avoid a runoff election in April.
Taylor won 51.7% of the vote, followed by Robyn Havener with 30.3%. George Ghesquire (15.1%) and J.W. Berry (3%) finished a distant third and fourth, respectively.
Taylor is succeeding Steve Majors, who is stepping down after 10 years serving on the school board.
Taylor has been a Broken Arrow resident over 30 years and the mother of four Broken Arrow Public School graduates. She’s been married for 44 years and been involved in community service here for more than 30 years.
Taylor has also been a business owner for over 27 years and is a member of the Broken Arrow Chamber of Commerce. During her campaign, Taylor said is advocating for transparency in education and plans to work for the best curriculum for students.
Taylor says she wants students to understand critical thinking skills, learn how to solve problems and meet their goals. She also wants students to learn practical skills such as welding, cooking, carpentry and others skills that will help them find their talents and abilities and be successful.
