Local US Cellular associates joined The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of Tulsa-Broken Arrow Jan. 12 to kick off the eighth annual Black History Month Art Contest.
Club members created original 8.5 x 11 pieces of artwork in recognition of influential black icons in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), including historical figures, world leaders, scientists and educators.
Ten finalists will be chosen by representatives from The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club and local US Cellular leaders based on creativity, quality, interpretation, clarity of theme and overall impression.
The finalists’ artwork will be digitally displayed in select stores and from Feb. 1-15. Anyone 18 and older will be invited to vote for their favorite art online at https://newsroom.uscellular.com/uscellular-black-history-month-art-contest/.
The top three vote-getters will be announced in late February and will receive prizes that include $250 for first place, $150 for second and $100 for third.
New to the 2024 contest, the top three first-place submissions with the most votes from all participating clubs will also be named national winners and will receive an additional $250, bringing their total winnings to $500, while their home club will also receive a $1,500 donation.
