The Tulsa Police Department said 3 people are in custody in connection with shooting New Year’s Day that killed a 12-year-old boy.
Detectives identified the suspects as Alvin Chaplin, Tajon Figures and Salathiel Fields. Figures and Fields were taken into custody last Thursday and Chaplin last Friday.
All three suspects were arrested for first-degree murder.
Tulsa police responded to reports of a shooting at a home near 1900 E. 14th Street at around 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 1 and found the victim, Steven Bruner, dead in the entryway.
Detectives learned the home had been rented out through VRBO by an out-of-state individual for a party for their juvenile nephew. Half a dozen juveniles and one adult teenager were present at the time of the shooting, police said.
Witnesses reported hearing gunshots, while Bruner, who appeared intoxicated, was on the porch.
Through the investigation, detectives learned a fight between two groups led up to the shooting, and the victim was not the intended target.
At this time, detectives don’t believe there are any outstanding suspects in this case.
