TULSA — Zackery Tyler Wise, accused of savagely beating his ex-girlfriend this spring in Broken Arrow, pleaded guilty in Tulsa County District Court to the charges against him.
Wise, 29, entered the pleas on June 15 to charges of domestic assault and battery resulting in great bodily harm, threatening violence and violation of a protective order.
Wise waived his right to a jury trial before entering the guilty pleas.
District Judge Rich Hathcoat sentenced Wise to a total of 10 years in prison on the assault charge, 1 year for threatening violence and 3 years for the PO violation. All the sentences will run concurrently and be served by Wise in custody, the judge said.
Family and friends of the victim, Wise’s ex-girlfriend Shealyn Petree, said she was beaten so severely that both her eyes were swollen shut.
“What he did to her is beyond words. She is really messed up and he needs to pay for his actions,” his parents said in April.
“Anyone who knows us also knows we don’t tolerate this type of behavior. He hasn’t worked the shop in weeks and will not ever be allowed back there or at our house. We love this community dearly and are sincerely sorry. We are even more sorry for the young lady and what happened to her. She didn’t deserve any of it regardless of the situation they were in.”
Petree was unable to work immediately after the assault and her friends started a fundraiser, which has brought in nearly $25,000 to help her pay for medical care and recovery care for her children.
