The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced that Robert Wayne Thompson, 54, of Broken Arrow, was found guilty by a federal jury of the lesser included offense of assault stemming from an incident involving his companion.
The defendant was indicted by a federal grand jury last February with assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm in Indian Country.
The jury trial began with testimony last Tuesday and concluded a day later with the guilty verdict. Based on the jury’s verdict, the defendant is facing up to 1 year of imprisonment.
During the trial, the prosecutors presented evidence that the defendant assaulted his long-time companion by picking up a bar stool and striking her on the head, causing a laceration to the victim’s head.
The guilty verdict was the result of an investigation by the Broken Arrow Police Department and the FBI.
U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White presided over the trial and ordered the completion of a presentence report. Sentencing will be scheduled following completion of the report.
