There was once a dearth of grocery store options in south Broken Arrow, but that no longer appears to be the case as Aldi is proposing a new store in the area.
Aldi is asking the Broken Arrow Planning Commission for approval to consolidate two lots at Spring Creek Plaza into one 2.4-acre lot to build a new store at the southeast corner of S. Elm Place and W. Tucson Street.
It would be Broken Arrow’s second Aldi grocery store, with the first one built on W. Kenosha Street just west of S. Aspen Avenue. City planners are recommending approval of the request, which will be discussed at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Planning Commission’s regular meeting at 220 South 1st Street.
Oklahoma Natural Gas, Public Service Company of Oklahoma, Windstream and Cox Communications have indicated that they don’t have any problems with the proposed lot consolidation, the city said.

City planners are still reviewing the site plan for the proposed Aldi, which if built would be at least the third new grocery store to open or announce construction in Broken Arrow in the past couple of years.
Reasor’s is building a new grocery store near S. Aspen Ave. and Tucson, after closing its location on S. Elm Place and W. New Orleans Street a few years ago. The new Reasor’s store is part of the $40 million Aspen Ridge retail development.
And Supermercados Morelos opened a Hispanic supermarket in Broken Arrow last year in the Oakwood Plaza building at W. 81st Street and S. Aspen Ave.
