Firefighters and authorities are responding to an explosion that occurred this afternoon at the ONEOK natural gas facility south of Medford, Okla.
The Grant County Sheriff’s office said residents south of Oklahoma 11 are being advised to evacuate their homes and go to the public school building, as well as the fairgrounds building. The evacuation zone is a 2-mile radius.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol in Enid said officers were notified at 2:28 pm. by Woods County authorities of an explosion at the plant at 25923 U.S.-81 and to was asked to assist with traffic control. Troopers took the closure of U.S. 81 as far south as Pond Creek. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation assisted with placing barricades.
