A fundraiser has been set up for a woman who died Monday during a crash between the vehicle she was in and a fire truck responding to a call.
The woman was identified as Tamia Ray, 23. Richie Verner said Tamia was his niece. “Mia was a loving soul and loved her family and friends,” he says. “Mia was a hard worker and took care of her siblings, nieces, and nephews.
“Mia was the first born of five kids and loved by any and everyone who crossed her path. Mia’s death was unexpected and accidental and at the time of death we didn’t have any life insurance to cover this funeral and memorial and we are asking for your support to help the family in this crisis.”
The horrific rush-hour accident in Tulsa between the vehicle and the Tulsa Fire Department rig left 2 people dead and killed an unborn child, the Tulsa Police Department said.
Just after 5:30 p.m. Monday, the city fire truck was headed westbound on 41st Street, at about New Haven Ave., with lights and sirens running when a white Hyundai sedan turned south onto New Haven.
The fire truck collided with the vehicle, causing the car to careen off the road, tumble over and come to rest against a utility pole.
Firefighters in the truck were not injured and immediately started to render aid to passengers in the car, which was carrying 3 adults and 3 children. Multiple first responders were called to assist and transport patients to the hospital.
A 5-year-old succumbed to injuries at the hospital and a 26-year-old passenger was in her 2nd trimester and miscarried her baby, police said. The 28-year-old female driver, a 1½-year-old boy and 4-year-old girl were also injured.
Tulsa police have not release the identities of the other victims. Traffic investigation specialists with TPD processed the scene but no further details have been released.
