A strong storm system along with an invasion of arctic air is expected late Tuesday night into early Thursday, the National Weather Service in Tulsa said.
As of Sunday, forecasters are saying snow, sleet and freezing rain are expected and it’s likely to cause travel and possibly power supply impacts across the region.
Forecasters said the amounts of precipitation are still uncertain, although some model runs being discussed online show the potential for several inches of snow in Tulsa and Northeast Oklahoma.
There is also high confidence that the arctic cold will combine with strong north winds to yield dangerous wind chills late Wednesday night through Friday night.
Wind chills from zero to 10 degrees below zero are possible across parts of northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas during this time.
“We expect the area to transition from rain Tuesday to freezing rain, sleet and eventually all snow by late Wednesday into Thursday. Significant snow and ice accumulations are possible,” the NWS office in Tulsa said.

This cold spell, while quite intense, is not expected to match the magnitude or duration of the February 2021 event. Warmer temperatures are expected by next weekend, the NWS said.
