Students from Union Public Schools’ Darnaby Elementary will hear from NASA astronaut Jessica Watkins Tuesday aboard the International Space Station.
The space-to-Earth call will air live this month on NASA Television, the NASA app, and the agency’s website.
Watkins will answer prerecorded questions from students at 8:40 a.m. CT. Darnaby Elementary is a STEM lighthouse school leading the region in advanced science, technology, math, and engineering.
The NASA event supports the school’s ongoing educational activities, such as the school’s science club, NASA-themed summer camp, and NASA-centric science fair. Participation in the downlink provides a tangible, real-world application of STEM in action and encourages the launch of a future NASA-themed curriculum.
For more than 21 years, astronauts have continuously lived and worked aboard the space station, testing technologies, performing science, and developing the skills needed to explore farther from Earth, NASA said.
