A horrific rush-hour accident in Tulsa between a vehicle and a fire truck has left 2 people dead and killed an unborn child, the Tulsa Police Department said.
Just after 5:30 p.m. Monday, a city fire truck was headed westbound on 41st Street, at about New Haven Ave., with lights and sirens running when a white Hyundai sedan turned south onto New Haven.
The fire truck collided with the vehicle, causing the car to careen off the road, tumble over and come to rest against a utility pole.
Firefighters in the truck were not injured and immediately started to render aid to passengers in the car, which was carrying 3 adults and 3 children. Multiple first responders were called to assist and transport patients to the hospital.
A 23-year-old woman and 5-year-old succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. A 26-year-old passenger was in her 2nd trimester and miscarried the baby, police said.
The 28-year-old female driver, a 1½-year-old boy and 4-year-old girl are still in the hospital undergoing treatment. TPD said they would provide more information about their conditions as it becomes available.
Police did not release the victim’s identities or more details about the accident.
