The Broken Arrow Police Department said it’s seeing an increase in auto thefts this year and have provided residents some information on how to prevent it from happening when possible.
Police said the increase they’re describing is the actual theft of automobiles, not vehicle burglaries.
Since January, Broken Arrow officers have investigated 174 stolen vehicles, the majority of which are trucks. Of those stolen trucks, officers are investigating more thefts of American-made trucks than foreign-made trucks. Plus, trucks built before 2018 are being stolen more than trucks built after 2018.
Many of the stolen vehicles are unlocked with the keys left inside, police said. They advise residents to LOCK their cars at night, park them in well-lit areas, submit doorbell videos or security camera footage of thefts to the police department when available, and call the non-emergency phone number when necessary: (918)-259-8400.
The graphics below show which trucks have been stolen the most this year in Broken Arrow and what years a majority of the stolen vehicles were built.
