Broken Arrow police have arrested a suspect in connection with an explosive device found in a vehicle during a traffic stop Monday afternoon.
A second suspect has been arrested in connection with a shoplifting incident that led to the traffic stop on the vehicle by police.
E. Kenosha Street west of the Creek Turnpike has been reopened as well after the incident in the 4000 block.
Officers stopped what they described as a suspicious vehicle around 3:45 p.m., believing it had been involved in a previous shoplifting from a local retailer.
The officer discovered a possible explosive device inside the car, said Broken Arrow police spokesman Christopher Walker.
Police closed Kenosha Street between 209th E. Ave. and the Creek Turnpike and the exit from the Creek Turnpike onto Kenosha.
The device was rendered safe by the Tulsa Police Department Bomb Squad and the investigation is still ongoing.
“We wish to thank the Tulsa Police Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for their assistance,” Walker said. “More information will be released as it is obtained.”
