The Broken Arrow Police Department says it arrested a 17-year-old boy Wednesday after a student reported him having a gun in his car at Broken Arrow High School.
Police said they responded to the high school to assist campus security “in reference to a reported student in possession of a firearm.” School administrators received information that a juvenile had brought a firearm to school in his car, police said.
Campus security followed up on the information, located the student and his vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a handgun and ammunition concealed in the car, police said.
The juvenile male was detained and later arrested by police and he is to be booked into the Juvenile Bureau at Tulsa County District Court. “There was no evidence of any imminent threat or danger to students, staff, or the general public,” BAPD said in a statement.
“The Broken Arrow Police Department is proud of the strong working relationship with Broken Arrow Public Schools and our shared mission of student safety. Due to the suspect’s age, no further information will be released.”

The Broken Arrow Public Schools said in a statement Wednesday afternoon that the gun was confiscated and turned over to BAPD.
“Due to no threats having been made and the quick response of campus security and the Broken Arrow Police Department to a tip, it was not necessary for the school to be placed in lockdown,” said BAPS spokesman Adam J. Foreman.
“The student, student’s family and district are working closely with BAPD while the matter is fully investigated. Student safety is our number one concern, and we are grateful to Broken Arrow Police Department for their quick response.”
